Michie, Tennessee ( map )

A wide area including Michie and a few other communities was known for many years as Pea Ridge.

A smaller section of this area was called Monterey, a name many favored for their new post office. However, as there already was a Monterey post office in Tennessee, the residents settled on the name of Michie, in honor of the Michie family who lived there for decades. Now considerably smaller than it once was, Michie was incorporated in 1961.
