Off The Shelf
by Judy Sander Cockrell
There seems to be an abundance of book stores every where you turn these days, which I adore.
Not long ago the library was the place to go to capture the latest reading sensation, or escape to a quiet corner on a rainy day.
Even the dusty used book stores of yesteryear are just about gone, but there are a few that have survived over the years, and they've got the spine to prove it! (groan)
I love to read and am always looking for a good deal on all of my genealogy and historic material.
Many times, the best place to find some of those golden oldies is a new and used book store.
One I have known of for years, but don't run across much in relation to genealogy is none other than... POWELLS BOOKS!!
Powells has been in business as long as I can remember and now has 7 portland oregon locations. The city store downtown boasts stock of more than one million new and used books.
Just this one store takes up an entire city block and the traffic through this location is more than 3,000 people a day.
As well, they purchase an equal number of used books daily!
so, if you think you can't have that one hard to find book or would love to get the best deal ever, spoil yourself... give Powells books a try. While your at it, dust off that old bookshelf... your gonna need it... trust me on this one.
