Surnames referenced in the databases, transcriptions and articles hosted at Genealogy Today.
The databases of the First Name Basis project include "Usual First Names", "Roots of Married Women", "Spinster or Spouse?" and "Stuck in the Middle with Yew". All are designed to help people make connections based on first names.
The site is divided into seven sections: Instructions, References, Family Connections, Forms, Professional Genealogists, Online Records and Information Links. There is also a link to the Surnames Forum at New-Jerusalem.com - one of Genealogy World's partners.
The combined index contains over 10 million names across 5,000 sites, including special collections, USGenWeb Project sites, personal web pages, and the original AOL GEDCOM index. The index consists of a last name, first name and cross-reference number that ties the entry to a URL.
Offers the capability to post and view queries on the people or surnames researchers are looking for, as well as a forum to post and view questions and answers on other research related problems.
This project is a collection of unique stories submitted by genealogists about their most surprising research discoveries. Serendipity has been in operation since September of 1996!
