Wrong Number? Maybe Not!
by Carol Glynn
My e-mail address is rglynn@dhc.net
and I live in Texas.
I am just beginning my ancestor hunt, but have already
found providence at work in many ways. Perhaps the most surprising was a
wrong number I dialed.
My dear aunt was trying to help me locate family
contacts and "thought this was the right listing." Of course, being a
long shot, it was the wrong number, but the elderly man who answered
called his wife to the phone.
I told her my purpose and began listing
family names. "No, no I don't know any of them," she replied. "Wait,
what was that last name? Oh yes, my father used to work for that family.
You need to talk to Elsie in Atlantic City, I think she used to be a
teacher. She's one of the daughters.
To my amazement, I found a listing
for Elsie and called her. Sure enough, she was a distant cousin and had
collected information tracing that family branch back to the 1600's in
Switzerland!!
Pretty good for a "wrong number."
