One Scott in Scotland

by Beryl O'Gorman

My e-mail address is raiden@axs.com.au
and I live in Melbourne Victoria Australia.

This really happened to me Visiting Stirling Archives in Scotland from Australia, I told the librarian who I was looking for and he said, "There was a man in here a couple of years ago asking about Leslie Neilson. I'll see if I've got his name on file."

He returned and said "All I can tell you is that his name is Douglas Scott, he's a retired music teacher and he lives in Dunblane." (6 miles up the road) The other librarian got the phone book and wrote down the 5 D Scotts in Dunblane.

Back at the B&B I rang each one. Hopes fading I dialed the fifth. Usual spiel - "Hi! I'm from Australia and I believe you may be interested in the same family as me. Leslie Neilson was my gg grandfather." A merry voice answered, "And he was mine as well!"

Consequently, from someone who had grown up in the area where the family had lived, I got photos, family stories and more names for my tree as well as meeting a wonderful relative who has stayed in touch with us ever since.

He only knew that 'Aunty Christina' had gone to Australia in 1854 and no one knew any more about her, so he was thrilled as well to get a whole Australian family tree.
