About the Author

Gary M. Smith started his interest in family history a LONG TIME AGO …. We'll just let it go at that! He's been married to his loving wife Diana for 28 research-filled years. Their mutual addiction to genealogy consumes whatever spare time is available. Living relatives, gainful employment, and two fuzzy cats consume the majority of his remaining time.

Gary is on the staff of the GenealogyForum.com (which is also available through AOL and RootsWeb), co-hosting a weekly chat on general genealogy and assisting with editing of the monthly GFNews. He has recently been named Resource Center Manager.

Gary and wife Diana have been lay librarians at the LDS Family History Center in Westlake, Ohio, for more than 7 years, after learning to appreciate the benefits of the FHC through their fruitful experience as patrons.

Gary enjoys speaking to local and area societies and genealogy groups on a variety of subjects including beginning genealogy, Internet genealogy, computer basics, and FHC topics. Gary's primary regions of personal research are Colonial New England, Pennsylvania, and the MidWest. His greatest challenge is trying to maintain a one-generation lead over his wife's earliest known ancestor.

He may be reached at genealogytalk@aol.com for feedback. He regrets that (due to the activities above) he cannot assist readers with individual research.
