In an effort to preserve as much information as possible for the benefit of genealogists, Genealogy Today welcomes a variety of contributions. Whether you have photographs, documents, articles, books, transcriptions or other materials that you'd like to share with others, Genealogy Today can assist in cataloging and publishing (i.e. hosting) them online.
Many visitors send us items that they discover at garage sales or flea markets. For reasonably priced items PUBLISHED PRIOR TO 1930, we will reimburse the purchase price (please include a receipt) along with shipping costs. Please do NOT purchase expensive items without contacting us first.
If you have photographs with identifying names written on the reverse, and would like to submit either the originals, photocopies and/or scanned images, we will catalog and post them in the Family History Wiki section of the web site.
If you have small documents, either regarding a group of people or just an individual, and would like to submit either the originals, photocopies and/or scanned images, we will catalog and post them in the Family History Wiki (individuals) or Free Genealogy Archive (groups) section of the web site.
If you have written an article about your research experiences or a review of your favorite genealogy book, and would like to submit it for consideration to be published in the Helpful Articles or Book Reviews section, please e-mail the article to our editorial team.
We accept books that provide information for groups of people (e.g. yearbooks, membership lists); however, due to copyright restrictions we are only able to publish items that are more than seventy-five years old. You are welcome to submit any genealogical or historical book for consideration. If accepted, the derived information will be posted in the Free Genealogy Archive section of the web site. Ineligible items may be auctioned off, with the money generated being used to purchased additional items. Upon request, we will reimburse postage fees.
If you have transcribed information from a printed or handwritten publication, you may submit it for consideration -- providing complete source information. If possible, please include a scanned copy of the cover and titles pages. For cemeteries or other physical area being documented, please include a digital photograph of the location. You may submit the information in just about any common file format (i.e. plain text, CSV, XML, XLS, DOC, PDF). For other formats, please contact us first. Transcribed items submitted will be posted in the Free Genealogy Archive section of the web site.
If you have published a family newsletter in the past, and would like it digitally archived and published online, we offer free scanning services for unbound, unstapled, unfolded newsletter issues. Family newsletters will be published in the Free Genealogy Archive section of the web site. Here are some examples: Potter Profiles and Gilbert Gallery. Please include (or email us) an introductory paragraph for each newsletter you submit. If you have already had your newsletter scanned into .PDF format, you may submit the issues on CD-ROM (or DVD) and we will catalog and publish them.
We have no format requirements for submissions; please send information in whichever format/manner you are most comfortable with. If you send us original documents/books, please include a note clearly stating whether the items are being donated to Genealogy Today LLC, or if you wish to have the item(s) returned.
